We are a small family business, it's more of a way of life, built on generations of expertise in the growing of trees. We present a range of selected trees, all of which are produced by us using skilled techniques to ensure that the trees have attractive and desirable characteristics for your garden, small-holding or landscaping.

We present a relatively small portfolio of trees and it is easy for the purchaser to navigate and compare options. We are focused on providing excellent value. Our prices are very competitive, but this is not at the expense of quality. We use cost effective measures in production and in nurturing the trees through all stages from inception to arriving at your doorstep. This includes the recycling of materials and packaging.

We encourage you to think ahead when buying your trees. We can grow to order and help you to plan your project, whether it is placing just one tree in a small garden, or developing a plantation or orchard. Our trees have many qualities as amenity, decoration, providing edible fruit and nuts, timber or fuel, habitat for animals, carbon offset, nuts for eating or oil, diversification for smallholders and farmers and even as financial legacy crops.

By keeping our prices low, we have significant demand for our trees and we have limited numbers of each species and variety. There are no middlemen. We know each tree and it is selected for you from the field. We therefore encourage you to plan ahead and order in advance of the autumn bare root season.

Choosing Your Tree
​
Firstly think about what you want the tree for: its eventual size and shape, ease of maintenance, the aesthetics or what it produces - its fruit or nut, timber quality, coppicing ability, can it be grown as a hedge or a spectacular centrepiece, does it need a pollinator for bountiful fruit production?
​
Walnut Trees - alongside the Common English Walnut which we grow from seed from local selected trees, we produce a variety of grafted cultivars, each with specific characteristics. Propagating walnut cultivars by grafting is very specialist operation, over 90% are imported from the continent. Here at Norfolk Walnuts, after five years we have managed to perfect a propagating technique. So whether you are looking for a small walnut tree with a large, tasty nut, or a reliable vigorous timber tree as an investment crop, we can assist. From November-April they will be sent as bare-root trees.

Fruit Trees - we grow varieties that will thrive in most situations in the UK. Again, the trees are mostly grafted varieties and have different characteristics, the fruit can sometimes be dual purpose (culinary and eating) or very specific. Fruit trees are usually better grown in pairs to encourage pollination and heavier cropping. Most of our trees will crop after two years.

AGROFORESTRY & LANDSCAPE DESIGN
We can help you plan your landscape project using trees from our portfolio, but we can also potentially grow or source locally any companion plants that may be recommended as part of your planting scheme.
​
Our projects have included:
Rescuing an ancient walled-garden orchard in Warwickshire by reproducing old lost varieties before they were destroyed by development and providing a new orchard of apples and pears to plant of exactly the same varieties. This involved producing over 100 grafted clones, some of them unique ancient seedling trees over 100 years old.
​
We have provided interesting trees to landscape new - build projects and conversions of old buildings.
​
Our largest and longest project is the planting of an investment crop of timber walnuts. This secures land and is a legacy for future generations as well as providing a crop and an appealing landscape for the current generation.
​
We are increasingly looking to incorporate poly-culture techniques to ensure environmental sustainability and we are increasing our range of companion plants, such as the nitogen-fixing Eleagnus which sit side by side our walnut trees. We also recommend planting for bees whenever possible as this increases pollination. Herbicides and pesticides have been reduced to a minimum.
